Featured Client | PepsiCo
In October 2008, PepsiCo asked 360 Sustainability Group Managing Director, James Jones to help develop an executive education and training program for the marketing teams of its North American brands.
Objective: Provide PepsiCo’s marketing teams the most current sustainability insights and research as it related to the CPG industry, its brands, customers, competitors and consumers.
Solution: 360 delivered a comprehensive and in-depth research and assessment program on the state of sustainability, including current business and government perspectives, consumer mindset and purchasing behavior and consumer segmentation. The program also included a sustainability review of PepsiCo’s customers – Wal-Mart, Costco, Kroger and Safeway, best practices, best- and worst-in-class CPG and non-CPG brands and key trends and opportunities.
Finally, 360 contributed to several brand working groups to identify sustainable opportunities and applications for their respective brands. Objective: Help a Blade of Grass, a landscape design company located in Boston, MA understand their environmental footprint and what as a company and individually they could do to lessen their impact, while improving performance and reducing costs. Solution: 360 conducted a full sustainability audit, benchmarking their existing office operations, supply chain, energy and transportation resources, measurement systems and strategies that address short and long-term value and goals. Immediate, more practical measures included CFL lighting, recycling, double-sided printing, post-consumer waste recycled paper, etc. Longer-term strategies included transportation and energy solutions - hybrid/diesel-powered vehicles, idling practices and sustainable transportation routing strategies. In addition, 360 provided a series of product offering opportunities, including LEED certified designs, green roof technology, organic fertilizers, electric-powered equipment and waste-water reduction systems. As a result of 360's assessment and recommendations, a Blade of Grass realized a 36% reduction in operating costs in the first phase of the plans implementation. Anecdotally, it has also had a significant impact on its employees own personal environmental involvement and practices at home.
